Mildo Exports LLC
Mildo Exports is a small business, Mililani, Hawaii, exporter of recycled plastic to overseas markets. In mid-April, 2005, company owner, Jeffrey B. Miller contacted Honolulu Export Assistance Center Director, Paul Tambakis, for immediate assistance in finding buyers for a 40 foot container of PET post-consumer plastic now in storage at the Port of Honolulu. The original sale for this material had fallen-through just before scheduled shipment from Hawaii and Mildo had no choice but to put the container in storage at the Port at a very expensive daily surcharge. For several days, Mildo sales executives worked frantically to locate a new buyer, but were unsuccessful until they contacted the Commercial Service for assistance. This is when Jeff called the Honolulu EAC for assistance in locating a buyer in the Asia/Pacific region. After identifying key export markets, Paul Tambakis corresponded with Rose Mak at the Commercial Service Office in Hong Kong and explained the urgency in locating a buyer for the 40-foot container of plastic scrap sitting at the docks in Honolulu. Within 4 hours of explaining the problem to Paul Tambakis, the Commercial Service in Hong Kong located a trading company interested in purchasing the distressed shipment from Mildo. Twenty-four hours later, Jeff Miller had a purchase agreement with this buyer and received full payment for the shipment one week later. Mildo is also working on an agreement with this buyer to purchase all their plastics with a long-term contract.

The ability of CS Honolulu and Hong Kong to quickly respond to the needs of this client was extremely impressive in the eyes of our client.
