Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one hour and 15
minutes south of Dawsonville, held its ranking as the world's
busiest airport in 2011, both in passengers and number of flights by
accommodating 92 million passengers (252,000 passengers daily) and
nearly one million flights. As an international gateway to the
United States, Hartsfield–Jackson ranks seventh and the airport
services every continent in the world.
Dawson Municipal Airport is one of the fastest growing regional
airports in the area, with an average of 65 planes based at the
facility. Runways 13 and 31 are 4510 feet long and are operational
24 hours a day. The airport recently purchased land for expanding,
which will include a new administration building, additional hangar
space, adding a new fuel farm, additional ramp area, lengthening the
runway and adding a full length parallel taxiway.
